BEREA, Ky. - Indiana University East redshirt senior Vanessa Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) was named Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Track and Field Athlete of the Year at the conclusion of the KIAC Championships at Berea College on April 28.

Legg won the award for the second consecutive season. She won the javelin, was second in the high jump, third in the shot put, and also scored in the 100, 200, hammer and long jump.

The IU East women finished second in the team standings and the Red Wolves men were third. IU East won eight events and broke nine school records.

"Great season and a terrific way to end it," said IU East coach Brett Crowley.

The IU East women also got individual first-place finishes from freshman Andrea Brower (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School) in the shot put and redshirt junior Kait Ervin (West Alexandria, Ohio/Twin Valley South High School) in the discus.

First-place finishers for the Red Wolves men were freshman Brandon Muncie (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School) in the long jump, freshman Trevor Tucker (Batesville, Ind./Batesville High School) in the 100 meter dash, redshirt freshman Josiah Lemons (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) in the 200 meter dash and sophomore Cory McKinney (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School) in the hammer throw.

The IU East men's 4x100 relay team of Lemons, Tucker, redshirt freshman Sterling Cridge (New Castle, Ind./New Castle High School) and redshirt junior David Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove High School) took first place in a school-record time of 44.08.

All of IU East's individual event winners made the all-conference team.

The Red Wolves also established a pack of school records:

* Tucker in the 100

* Lemons in the 200

* Legg in the 400

* Ervin in the hammer

* Freshman Seth Prince (Albany, Ind./Delta High School) in the 10,000 meter run

* Sophomore Aaron Myers (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) in the 3,000 meter steeplechase

* The men's 4x800 meter relay team of junior Jordan Weatherford (Indianapolis, Ind./North Platte Community College), sophomore Bakari Smith (Indianapolis, Ind./George Washington High School), freshman Kriegon Newby (Athens, Ohio/Athens High School) and redshirt sophomore Brandon Arnett (Lynn, Ind./Indiana University).

* The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Legg, Brower, freshman Dominique Green (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School) and Kesla Klingler (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village High School).

Berea won the men's and women's team titles for the third consecutive year.

The KIAC Championships ended the season for the full IU East track and field teams.

Muncie and Lemons have qualified to compete at the NAIA Track and Field National Championships next month at Indiana Wesleyan University.
