RICHMOND, Ind. - Lindsay Shirilla, a 6-0 middle hitter/outside hitter from Twinsburg (Ohio) High School, has signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for Indiana University East starting with the 2012-13 school year.

Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown announced the signing May 3.

Shirilla is a two-time first-team all-conference selection in volleyball and also was a part of two basketball state championship teams.

"If I summed up Lindsay with one word, I would have to say 'winner,'" Brown said. "Lindsay understands the term 'commitment' and she certainly understands what it takes to be a champion.

"Lindsay had many schools to consider once she decided volleyball was her sport of choice, and we're glad she chose us. Lindsay will be a tremendous asset to an already promising 2012 squad. She has a high approach ceiling, puts forth a great block effort, possesses a very high volleyball IQ and most importantly understands the concept of winning as a team."

Lindsay is the daughter of Debra and John Shirilla.

She plans to major in nursing.

"I chose IU East because it's a really good fit for me and I love the people I'm going to be surrounded by," Shirilla said.

Shirilla joins Mallory Livingston of Union City, Ohio, Allison Gutierrez of Decatur and Natasha VanGilder of Crown Point in IU East's 2012 recruiting class.

"Londa (Brown, IU East's assistant coach) and I are extremely pleased with our 2012 recruiting campaign," Brown said. "Our recruiting class this season is one of our best ever.

"We have all the pieces of the puzzle, and now it's time for them to put in the work for what should prove to be a very exciting year."

IU East is an NAIA program. IU East advanced to the NAIA national tournament in each of the past three seasons and is one of just seven programs in the NAIA to win 30 or more matches in each of the past three seasons.
