The Indiana University East track and field teams got in an extra workout for a good cause on April 24.

The Red Wolves practiced with Special Olympics athletes during their workout at Earlham College.

The Special Olympians, who ranged in age from 18 to 40, have been preparing for their Indiana regional competition with weekly workouts since February.

IU East's throwers, runners and sprinters traded tips with Special Olympians who are training for the same events.

"We had the opportunity to give back to the local community and other athletes and share expertise and knowledge in running and track," said IU East track and field coach Brett Crowley. "It just gives you a warm feeling. It gave us a chance to appreciate the gifts and privileges we're been given and realize that there are others out there who have it a lot tougher than we do - but who are still athletes!"

Several Red Wolves kept in touch with the Special Olympians through Facebook and plan to continue practicing together throughout the summer.
