Vasha Davis, a 6-3 guard from Hammond (Ind.) Morton High School, has signed a letter of intent to play basketball for Indiana University East starting with the 2012-13 season.
Red Wolves coach Mark Hester announced the signing June 20.
Davis averaged 13.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game as Morton finished 11-10, the program's first winning season in six years. He was an honorable mention all-area selection.
Hester likened Davis' defensive abilities to those of former Red Wolves guard Terry Weathers.
"Vasha is another physical guard from the Region (northwest Indiana)," Hester said. "He gives us something we need desperately. He gives us more of a defensive presence and a rebounding presence. He is a pretty good on-the-ball defender who shoots really well."
Davis plans to major in business.
"Some say it is just a game, but for me it is a purpose in life," Davis said. "I am proud to be an IU East Red Wolf and will work hard to contribute to my team's success.
"It will be a lot of late nights and early mornings in the gym, and I am excited to join the team."
Davis joins Jeff Hopper of Cascade, Jason Ray of Martinsville and Nick Bollenbacher of Hanover Central in IU East's 2012 men's basketball recruiting class.
The Red Wolves' recruits combined for a 56-29 record this past season.
IU East is an NAIA Division II program. The Red Wolves went 24-8 this past season and advanced to the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship for the second consecutive year.
