RICHMOND, Ind. - Trevor Tucker, a senior sprinter at Batesville (Ind.) High School, has signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field for Indiana University East starting with the 2011-12 school year.

Red Wolves coach Tyler Daugherty announced the signing May 20.

Tucker anchored Batesville's sectional champion 4x100 relay team on May 19.

He is a two-time all-county track and field honoree and was an all-conference track and field performer as a senior.

"We are excited about the potential Trevor brings," Daugherty said. "He has been a track and field athlete for only two years, so I think his best days are ahead of him."

Tucker has run the 100 meter dash in 11.13 and the 200 meter dash in 23.5.

His best 100 meter dash time is faster than the winning 100 meter dash time at IU East's 2011 conference meet.

Trevor is the son of Pamela Tucker.

He plans to major in criminal justice.

"I chose IU East because I liked the small college feel. It made me feel at home," Tucker said.

Tucker's hobbies include hockey, which he still plays on weekends.

"People might not know he still plays hockey," Daugherty said. "So we're excited about the toughness and 'intimidation factor' he will bring from his hockey experience."

IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves recently completed their first men's track and field season.

Tucker joins Andrea Brower and Drew Othersen of Eaton, Matt Snyder of Liberty and David DeLeon of Fortville in IU East's 2011 track and field recruiting class.
