The Indiana University East men's basketball team plays at Mountain State University on Jan. 19.

Tipoff is at 7 p.m. in the Raleigh County Convention Center.

The Red Wolves (17-4) are ranked 11th in the NAIA Division II.

The Cougars (12-6) are ranked 15th in the NAIA Division I. Mountain State was the NAIA Division I national runner-up last season.

IU East seeks its first win against a team ranked in the NAIA Division I Top 25.

LAST TIME OUT

IU East is coming off of a 101-71 win at Saint Louis College of Pharmacy on Jan. 14.

Mountain State fell 87-84 at then-NAIA Division I No. 10 Southern Poly (Ga.) on Jan. 14.

The is the first NAIA meeting between IU East and Mountain State. Both schools are members of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, but Mountain State competes as an NAIA Division I independent in men's basketball.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Mountain State is statistically one of the best defensive teams in the NAIA Division I.

The Cougars lead the national rankings in blocks per game (9.2), rebound margin (13.3) and opponents' field goal percentage (.353).

Cam Miller, a 6-9 senior guard, leads Mountain State's balanced scoring ledger with 14.9 points per game.

Senior guard Mark Williams adds 14.4 points per game and is second in the NAIA Division I with 9.4 assists per game.

David Nyarsuk, a 7-1 sophomore center, leads the NAIA Division I with 3.1 blocks per game.

NUMBERS OF NOTE

IU East will travel 740 miles round-trip on this weekend road trip to Mountain State and Alice Lloyd College. The Red Wolves play at Alice Lloyd on Jan. 21.

IU East is 1-0 against NAIA Division I teams this season with a win against Culver-Stockton College.

Mountain State's average frontcourt player is 6-9. IU East's tallest player is 6-7.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

IU East has several players among the NAIA Division II national leaders

Freshman forward Huston Clark (Kokomo, Ind./Kokomo High School) is second in field goal percentage (.693)

Junior guard Marcus Isaac (Indianapolis, Ind./Purdue University North Central) is fourth in free throw percentage (.877), fifth in 3-point field goal percentage (.504), 12th in 3-point field goals per game (3.0), 22nd in overall field goal percentage (.573) and 31st in points per game (18.7)

Senior guard David Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove High School) is 10th in assist-turnover ration (3.3 to 1) and 12th in assists per game (5.4).

Sophomore guard Matt Trimnell ranks 25th in free throw percentage (.821), 41st in 3-pointers per game (2.3), 48th in points per game (17.2) and 50th in steals per game (1.8)
