WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind - The Indiana University East men's golf team is in seventh place after the opening round of the Taylor University Invitational on April 9 at Purdue University's Kampen Course.
The Red Wolves posted a team score of 357 on the par 72, 6,874-yard course.
Redshirt freshman Joey Smart (Brookville, Ind./Morehead State University) led IU East with an 82.
Wheaton leads the tournament with a 323. Jacob Forsythe of Cedarville is the individual leader with a 76.
"The Kampen Course was very difficult for all of the players trying to shoot par," said IU East coach Von Ebeling. "This coupled with very high winds made the day frustrating for our team from start to finish.
"Our final two groups of players barely came in before the sun went down. As a result they had to rush their final five holes and that further made it hard to focus and concentrate."
The tournament concludes April 10.
