MARION, Ind. - Josiah Lemons won the men's long jump with a national meet "B" qualifying mark to highlight the opening day of the Little State Invitational for the Indiana University East track and field team.
Lemons (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School), a redshirt freshman, won the event with a leap of 7.10 meters (about 23-3), good for a "B" qualifying mark for the NAIA Track and Field National Championships.
All NAIA schools may enter three "B" qualifiers in the national meet. Lemons is IU East's first "B" qualifier of the 2012 season. Freshman teammate Brandon Muncie (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School) already has earned automatic entry into the national meet in the long jump.
Freshman Andrea Brower (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School) was seventh in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.54 meters (about 41-2).
Redshirt senior Vanessa Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) was fifth in the javelin.
The Little State Invitational is open to all non-NCAA Division I track and field programs in the state.
The meet concludes April 14.
