Indiana University East redshirt junior tennis player Courtney Ecker was named to the the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America College Division women's at-large third team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Ecker (Centerville, Ind./Indiana Institute of Technology) is the first IU East student-athlete to receive a CoSIDA Academic All-America award.

The Capital One College Division Academic All-America at-large teams are comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.

The at-large list for the Capital One Academic All-America program includes athletes from 13 women's sports. Ecker was one of 45 student-athletes in the nation to earn this honor. She was the only women's tennis player from Indiana on the list.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and be nominated by the school's sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.

Ecker is an elementary education major. She was named to the All-Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team in the fall of 2011 after compiling a 13-6 record at No. 1 singles.
