WILMORE, Ky. -- The Red Wolves hope this was a dress rehearsal for a Saturday afternoon at Asbury College about seven weeks down the road.

The Indiana University East volleyball team capped a 2-0 day at Asbury with a 25-11, 25-17, 25-14 win against Kentucky Christian University on Oct. 3.

The Red Wolves beat the host school in four games earlier Oct. 3. The two victories boosted IU East's record to 17-4.

The Red Wolves hope they win two more games on a Saturday at Asbury on Nov. 14 â€" the date of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals and championship.

"This team is starting to turn the corner and is starting to peak when we want them to," IU East coach Charlie Brown said. "We just need to maintain that course."

IU East stayed on the course it charted with three dominant games to conclude its win against Asbury. The Red Wolves were in complete control throughout their match against Kentucky Christian. The only trouble spot came when KCU got within 18-16 in the second game. IU East responded by winning seven of the last eight points.

"I give us a 10 out of 10," said freshman defensive specialist Akeyta Mayes (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School). "We had good defense. Our hitters were connecting with our setter. We were finding the holes in the court. We were just playing volleyball like we should be."

Freshman middle hitter Breezy Strete led IU East with 13 kills. Junior middle hitter Jessica White added seven. Freshman outside hitter Brandie Sanders had 15 digs. Freshman setter Lauren Crump distributed 26 assists. The blocking numbers didn't jump off the stat sheet, but Brown said IU East's block was effective against KCU (12-5).

"Our serves gave them some trouble, and our blocking picked it up," said freshman outside hitter Victoria Hicks (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School). "There were more touches, which made our back row have an easier job, and there were a lot more stuff blocks, too. And blocks are good for morale."

The Red Wolves return to Wilmore for the Asbury College Invitational on Oct. 9 and 10.
