The Indiana University East women's golfers started slow but finished strong on the opening day of the Auld Crafters Kisor Classic in Pataskala, Ohio.

Courtney Barlage (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles High School) shot 94 on Oct. 2 to lead the three Red Wolves representatives during the first day of the two-day tournament.

Allyson Kenworthy (Hagerstown, Ind./Hagerstown High School) shot 107. Kelli Moore (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe High School) rounded out the lineup with a 123.

IU East coach Von Ebeling said Barlage overcame a mid-round lull and played solid golf over the final holes.

Kenworthy bounced back from a 60 on the front nine with a 47 on the back nine.

Ebeling said Moore hit her best shots of the day at the end of her round.

"We got stronger as the day went on," Ebeling said.

The opening round of the tournament was delayed an hour by rain. The course was still soggy when play commenced.

"You could take a bath in the bunkers," Ebeling said.

The Red Wolves golfers concluded their rounds just before the sun set. The final round of the two-day tournament is Oct. 3.

Otterbein leads the 12-team tournament with a 328.
