RICHMOND, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's tennis team put forth a dedicated effort in the dedication match for the Kyle Tom Courts at Glen Miller Park.

IU East took on Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology on April 15 following a ribbon cutting ceremony on the Red Wolves' newly refurbished home courts.

Rose-Hulman (15-7), the reigning champion in its conference, won 9-0. IU East is now 10-11 on the season.

* Kyle Tom, IU East Chancellor Kathryn Cruz-Uribe and City of Richmond Mayor David Snow spoke prior to the match and then teamed up to cut the ribbon to formally open the refurbished courts. IU East, through the aid of a donation from Tom, made funds available for the resurfacing project. Tom is a Richmond native and realtor with Lingle Real Estate. The courts will be known as Kyle Tom Courts in recognition of the philanthropist's generosity to the university and community.

* The closest doubles match was contested by Colton Shipley and Alex Shelley at No. 2 doubles.

* The closest singles match was Scott Radford II's matchup at No. 4 singles.

"From the moment Jason (Troutwine, vice chancellor for the IU East Office of External Affairs) mentioned the collaboration I thought it would be an amazing opportunity to give back not only to the youth of our community, who are our future, but also a great way to enhance our parks department and share some of the blessings that Richmond has provided me. I couldn't be happier with the outcome." - Kyle Tom

IU East competes at the Indiana Wesleyan University Mark Richards Classic on April 21 and 22. IU East is scheduled to play against Indiana University Southeast on April 21 and against Taylor University and Indiana Wesleyan on April 22.
