UNION, Ky. - The Indiana University East men's golf team is in fifth place at the midway point of the River States Conference tournament.

The Red Wolves are 14 strokes behind tournament leader Asbury University after playing the first 27 holes of the 54-hole event on April 17 at the par 71, 6,724-yard Lassing Pointe Golf Club.

Tyler Pearson (SO/Richmond, Ind.) shot 72 in the first round and enters the final day in fifth place on the individual leaderboard. Ben Tinkle (FR/Hagerstown, Ind.) is in 14th place.

KEY MOMENTS

* IU East shot a team score of 314 in Round 1.

* Tyler Pearson played his first 10 holes in a stroke under par to position himself for a round in the low 70s.

* Ben Tinkle tallied seven pars and a birdie early in his first round.
