They're back.

The Indiana University East volleyball team returned to form Oct. 17 with a 25-11, 25-14, 25-8 win against Brescia University to complete a 2-0 day against Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference foes at Seton Catholic High School. The Red Wolves (20-8, 4-0 KIAC) defeated Cincinnati Christian University earlier Oct. 17.

"We made sure we fought through and fought for each point," said freshman outside hitter Stacie Muir (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville High School). "IU East volleyball is definitely back."

Freshman outside hitter Brandie Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike High School) tied the school single-match record with eight aces. Five of those aces came during a big serving run that turned Game 3 into a runaway.

Sanders made an adjustment on where she lined up for her serves and then picked on a vulnerable spot in the Brescia defense.

"I kind of have a slow serve, so I took a couple of steps back and took my time," said Sanders, who couldn't recall serving up eight aces in any match in her volleyball career.

The Red Wolves posted a season high with 16 total aces. Junior middle hitter Jessica White (Sheldon, Ill./Kankakee Community College) had four aces. Freshman defensive specialist Kristin Waechter (Muncie, Ind./Daleville High School) had three.

White had nine kills. Muir added eight. Freshman setter Lauren Crump (Indianapolis, INd./Scecina Memorial High School) distributed 32 assists. Sophomore libero Madison Qualkenbush (New Castle, Ind./New Castle High School) made 11 digs.

Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown was pleased to see his team maintain a consistent level of play for three consecutive games. Consistency was a concern when IU East dropped four of five matches leading up to Oct. 17.

"I think this was a real positive to get us back on track," Brown said. "We got two matches out of the way we were real nervous about and couldn't afford to drop.

"The thing that was a real positive was when we were up, we didn't get complacent. We continued to push points. That's how you beat teams in three sets."

Brescia fell to 2-13 (2-5)

Saturday's matches will be rebroadcast Oct. 20 on Whitewater Community Television (WCTV), Comcast Channel 20.

The Red Wolves host Ohio Dominican at 7 p.m. Tuesday to conclude their four-match homestand at Seton Catholic.

"We're very excited, but there's still a lot of things we have to work on," Sanders said. "Our goal for the season before we even came in was to win the conference, and that's still our goal."
