The Red Wolves are on the right track.
"We're on the right road," Indiana University East cross country coach Pam Mertz said after four of the Red Wolves' runners posted season-best times on Sept. 18 at the Indiana Intercollegiates at Indiana State University. "We're getting in the miles and we are improving."
IU East was unable to field a complete team in the men's or women's Little State competition, which included the state's smaller intercollegiate programs.
Freshman Zach Burns (Cambridge City, Ind./Lincoln High School) finished 72nd in 29:27 to lead the Red Wolves in the 8K Little State men's race.
Sophomore Nicole House (Hagerstown, Ind./Hagerstown High School) finished 87th in 23:07 to lead IU East in the 5K Little State women's race.
James Healton (Centerville, Ind./Centerville High School), who finished in 100th place in 31:18, and Nick Reece (Fountain City, Ind./Richmond High School), who finished in 115th place in 44:55, ran season bests in the men's race. Jon Strong (Connersville, Ind./Connersville High School) finished 113th in 36:29.
Kelsey West (Cambridge City, Ind./Lincoln High School), who finished in 95th place in 24:22, and Vanessa Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School), who finished in 101st place in 26:43, ran season bests in the women's race.
Manchester College won the men's Little State team title. DePauw University won the women's Little State team title.
The Red Wolves' next race is Oct. 3 at the Earlham College Invitational.
