
The Red Wolves played all of those challenging October matches for a reason.
The Indiana University East volleyball team hopes those experiences pay off during a three-match trip that includes a pair of Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matches.
The Red Wolves (20-11, 4-0 KIAC) play at NCAA Division II Kentucky State (20-7) on Oct. 30 at 7 p.m. IU East then will play two KIAC matches at Midway College on Oct. 31. The Red Wolves open the day with a 1 p.m. match against Midway (7-14, 4-4). IU East then will play Mountain State University (11-16, 2-2) at 3 p.m.IU East has dropped seven of its last 10 matches, but six of the losses came against teams with winning records who are at or near the top of their respective conferences.
"We're playing the toughest schedule of anyone in the conference, so hopefully this helps us as a springboard into the weekend so we can play at a high level," IU East coach Charlie Brown said. "I think we will."
IU East's opponents will present a variety of challenges.
Midway's Lauren Davis is 18th in in the NAIA in aces per game with 0.68.
Mountain State leads the KIAC and is 11th in the NAIA in digs per game with 19.2. The Cougars' Melissa Chapman leads the KIAC and is 18th in the NAIA in digs per game with 5.6.
IU East freshman setter Lauren Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial High School) is 39th in the NAIA in assists per game with 9.6.
