BECKLEY, W.Va. - A slow start for the Indiana University East women's soccer team resulted in a 3-1 River States Conference setback for the Red Wolves at WVU Tech on Oct. 5.

IU East (4-5-1, 0-1-1) was playing its first conference road match. The Golden Bears (8-4 overall) lead the league with a 3-0 conference record.

* WVU Tech struck for a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes to take a 2-0 lead.

* IU East's Cendy Mejia made it 2-1 on a goal in the 47th minute.

* The Golden Bears pushed their lead back to two scores with a goal in the 71st minute.

* Cendy Mejia has scored in two games in a row.

* It's 302 miles from Richmond, Ind., to Beckley, W.Va. - the longest drive on the IU East schedule this year.

"Most disappointing performance of the year. We were not prepared to compete when we stepped off of the bus, and we got away from the type of soccer we want to play. On those counts, that's on me as the coach." - IU East coach Shane Meridith

IU East continues this River States Conference road trip with a match at the University of Rio Grande on Oct. 7.
