MIDWAY, Ky. - Breezy Strete brought her powerful right arm forward and slammed the ball down over the net.

The ball bounced off of the face of a Midway College player and knocked her to the floor.

That's the kind of statement the Indiana University East volleyball team made in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-23 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win against Midway in the first of two matches at Midway on Oct. 31.

"The ladies got after it and played with conviction and authority," said IU East coach Charlie Brown, whose team improved to 22-11 overall and 5-0 in the KIAC.

Strete (Troy, Ohio/Troy High School), a freshman middle hitter, and freshman outside hitter Brandie Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike High School) led the Red Wolves with nine kills apiece.

Brown said Strete's big kill off of the Midway player set the tone for the afternoon.

"A dominating swing," Brown said. "That was kind of how the match went after that."

Freshman outside hitter Stacie Muir (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville High School) had seven kills. Sophomore outside hitter April Acree (Muncie, Ind./Yorktown High School) contributed a season-high six kills.

Freshman setter Lauren Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial High School) had 32 assists.

Sophomore libero Madison Qualkenbush led the team in digs. Qualkenbush played though her grandfather passed away earlier in the week. Qualkenbush's mother brought her to the match after Madison spent time visiting with family members.

"She showed the heart of a lion," Brown said.

Midway fell to 7-15 overall and 3-4 in the KIAC.

IU East defeated Mountain State University later Oct. 31.
