
WILMORE, Ky. - The Indiana University East volleyball team advanced to the semifinals of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament with a win against St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Friday in the quarterfinal round.
The top-seeded Red Wolves (28-11) defeated the eighth-seeded Eutectics (6-16) 25-23, 25-17, 25-13.
IU East has won eight straight.
Freshman outside hitter Brandie Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike High School) put away 12 kills for the Red Wolves. Freshman setter Lauren Crump (Indianapolis, Ind./Scecina Memorial High School) distributed 37 assists. Sophomore libero Madison Qualkenbush (New Castle, Ind./New Castle High School) and freshman defensive specialist Akeyta Mayes (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North High School) made 20 digs apiece.
IU East will face No. 4 seed Cincinnati Christian University on Nov. 14 at 11 a.m. The championship match is at 4 p.m.
"Round two tomorrow, but we can't start out like we did the first set," IU East coach Charlie Brown said. "We're not superstitious, but the first set, I was thinking, 'Oh my gosh. Friday the 13th!
"We got out of the gate really slow, but each set we got better ball control and blocking. The entire gym was cheering for St. Louis College of Pharmacy. But we settled in and played much better."
