The Red Wolves volleyball program got to savor the "taste of victory" one more time in 2009.

The Richmond Palladium-Item included the Indiana University East volleyball season as one of its top five local sports stories of 2009.

IU East went 30-12 and captured the program's first Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles.

The Red Wolves also made their first appearance in the NAIA National Championship.

"It's good to know the local community recognized and took pride in our accomplishments this season," said IU East coach Charlie Brown.

"We look forward to bringing even bigger and better things to IU East and to the Richmond community in 2010."

The Palladium-Item's "Taste of Victory" recap of the area's top sports stories combined the volleyball accomplishments of the Red Wolves and nearby Northeastern High School.

It was an appropriate pairing. Northeastern's most decorated player, Caitlin Burroughs, has signed to play for IU East starting next season.
