OWENSBORO, Ky. - The Red Wolves were warned.

The Indiana University East men's basketball team's scouting report had plenty of material on Brescia University standout Anthony Ingram.

That he would shoot the three. That he was strong. That he was quick. That he could go one-on-one.

The warning wasn't enough.

Ingram scored 34 points - including a 23-point outburst in the first half - to send the Red Wolves to an 86-75 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference loss on Jan. 16 at Brescia.

IU East fell to 10-8 overall and 2-2 in the KIAC.

The Bearcats, who are 36th in the NAIA Division II Men's Basketball Coaches Poll, won their sixth straight and improved to 14-6 overall (3-0 KIAC).

"It was a typical performance we've had all year," IU East coach Mark Hester said. "We just try to go through the motions until it's too late and then try to catch up, and when you play like that, it's going to cost you."

IU East found itself down 24-9 after the first eight minutes.

The Red Wolves would get within seven at 34-27, but Ingram scored eight points in the next three minutes to help the Bearcats boost their lead back to 44-30 by halftime.

Brescia would build its advantage to as much as 24 in the second half. IU East would get within six with 22 seconds remaining, but it was too little, too late.

"We didn't execute any of the scouting report in the first half," Hester said. "The second half we didn't do much better, but we tried twice as hard. You've got to give effort the whole game."

The Bearcats shot .586 from the field in the first half to take control of the contest. Brescia also made 25 of its 27 free throws.

Ingram made all four of his 3-point attempts and all 12 of his free throws. He also made a key steal and a crucial basket in the final minutes to help the Bearcats hold off the Red Wolves' rally.

"He's a good player and he got hot, but he got hot because we didn't guard him," Hester said.

Tyler Rigby led IU East with 20 points. David Sanders (13 points), Noah Douglas (13 points) and Brent Burris (11 points) also reached double figures.

IU East plays Jan. 23 at KIAC opponent St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Tipoff is 3 p.m. (Richmond time).
