The Red Wolves added a scrappy pup to their golf pack on March 12.
Indiana University East golf coach Von Ebeling announced Greenfield native and Eastern Hancock High School senior Hunter Overleese signed a letter of intent to play for the Red Wolves' men's golf program starting with the 2010-11 school year.
Overleese is a three-sport standout at Eastern Hancock. He also played football and basketball for the Royals.Overleese has career-best golf scores of 38 for nine holes and 75 for 18 holes.
He finished seventh in his conference meet as a sophomore. He finished 15th in an IHSAA sectional as a junior.
Overleese was a two-time most-improved player honoree on the Eastern Hancock golf team. He says his short game is his biggest strength.
Ebeling expects Overleese to push the golfers at the top of the IU East lineup.
"I look forward to Hunter bringing his competitive attitude to the program," Ebeling said. "I'm eager to follow his progress through his final high school golf season. I'm hopeful he will settle into his game and play confidently, knowing he has signed his letter of intent to join the Red Wolves.
"We will need him to practice aggressively and put pressure on his teammates to elevate their games in the fall."
Overleese plans to study criminal justice with an eye toward a career in law enforcement.
"I really liked the campus, and IU East seemed like somewhere I could really fit in," Overleese said.
Hunter is the son of Tom and Lisa Overleese.
Overleese joins Wes Drees in IU East's 2010 men's golf recruiting class.
IU East's men's golf team has finished in the top two in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference every year since the program joined the NAIA.
