The Red Wolves got defensive on March 12.
Indiana University East volleyball coaches Charlie and Londa Brown announced Ariel "A.J." Cox (Ansonia, Ohio/Mississinawa Valley High School) and Meagan Stoker (Celina, Ohio/Celina High School) signed letters of intent to play for the Red Wolves starting with the 2010-11 school year.
Cox and Stoker are the first two defensive specialist signees in IU East's 2010 volleyball recruiting class."The roles they are going to play will be key," Charlie Brown said. "They are two players from good high school programs.
"Again, we've been able to bring in players who will fit in well with this team and be part of this success story."
Cox, who is 5-7, was an all-conference selection, an all-district honoree and district all-star during her senior season. She helped the Blackhawks to an 18-6 record.
She also can play setter.
"A good, all-around player," Brown said. "She's got good hands and will be able to step in and help out at almost any position."
Cox plans to major in art.
"I chose IU East because it is close to home and because of my major," she said. "I'm so excited to start college."
Ariel is the daughter of Lisa and Kevin Cox.
Stoker, who is 5-5, was an all-conference selection who helped Celina to a 21-6 record this past season. She led the Bulldogs in digs and serve receptions.
"She is a very quick, athletic player who is going to help us in the backcourt," Brown said.
Said Stoker: "I chose IU East because the coaching staff and volleyball team are very nice, because the academics are good, and because it is close to home and the perfect size.
"I'm really excited to play volleyball as a Red Wolf."
Meagan is the daughter of Lloyd and Vicki Stoker.
IU East went 30-12 last season. The Red Wolves won the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and tournament titles and reached the NAIA National Championship.
Cox and Stoker join Caitlin Burroughs of Northeastern High School, Sarah Shilling of Warsaw Community High School and Paige Lay of Parkland College in the Red Wolves' 2010 recruiting class.
IU East's 2010 volleyball recruits led their teams to a combined 129-24 record this past fall.
