The Indiana University East men's and women's golf teams open their seasons March 19 at the Brescia Bearcat Shootout at the Old Kentucky Home State Park Golf Course in Bardstown, Ky.
The event tees off at noon.
MILESTONE MARKERThis is the first official competition for the first-year IU East women's golf program.
LAST TIME OUT
The IU East men won the Brescia Bearcat Shootout last season.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Most of the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference golf programs are scheduled to compete, so the Red Wolves will get an early indicator of where they stack up in the KIAC race.
Brescia is the reigning KIAC men's champion.
NOTABLE QUOTABLE
"As a coach, my goal is to treat the Brescia Invitational and Berea Invitational (next week) as a measure for what we will need to improve on to win the KIAC Tournament.
"Many colleges and universities travel south for spring break and take part in competitions. I'm looking at these two invites as our spring training. With budget and facility limitations, we are going to stay positive and use Kentucky as our southern spring break destination.
"My intentions are to get better and introduce our new players to college competition. I project these March dates will help us come together as a team and take a good hard look at the other players in the conference.
