
BARDSTOWN, Ky. - The Indiana University East golf teams produced a pair of individual runner-up finishes at the Brescia Bearcat Shootout on March 19 at My Old Kentucky Home Golf Course.
Red Wolves junior Nick Ary (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville High School) shot 77 to tie for second in the men's tournament.
Freshman Courtney Barlage (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles High School) shot 82 to finish second in the women's tournament.
It was the season opener for both IU East teams.
IU East finished third in the four-team men's tournament. Host Brescia won the team title with a 312. IU East and Berea College both finished at 335, but Berea won the fifth-score tiebreaker.
Senior Mark Bevins (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village High School) shot 82 for IU East. Bevins finished 10th.
Freshman Zack Palmer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) shot 87 and finished 16th.
Freshman Derrick McNeely (Connersville, Ind./Connersville High School) shot 89 and finished 18th.
Freshman Brandon Loomis (Union City, Ind./Union City Community High School) finished with a 102 and finished 22nd.
Garrett Veal of Brescia was medalist with a three-over 74.
Brescia won the three-team women's tournament with a 336.
IU East did not field a complete team.
Freshman Kelli Moore (Arcanum, Ohio/Franklin Monroe High School) shot 115 for IU East. Moore finished 12th.
Brescia's Bretnea Turner was medalist with a seven-over 78.
The IU East men return to the course March 26 at 27 at the Berea College Invitational.
The IU East women next will compete in the J.C. Penney Women's Apparel Spring Golf Classic tournament hosted by IU East on March 30 at Highland Lake Golf Course. Six teams, including NCAA Division I and Division II programs, are expected to compete in the 18-hole tournament.
