The Indiana University East men's golf team finished second out of four teams at the Cincinnati Christian University Invitational on April 16.
The Red Wolves finished with a two-day total of 687 on the par 72, 6,808-yard layout at Miami Whitewater Golf Course.
Brescia University won the tournament with a 649. Brescia has finished ahead of IU East at three tournaments this spring.
"We gained a couple of strokes (on Brescia in the second round), but still not enough," IU East coach Von Ebeling said. "We'll have to play above and beyond what we normally shoot to have any chance of winning conference."
IU East had a team score of 343 on the second day, a one-stroke improvement.
The tournament ended just before a thundershower moved through the Cincinnati area.
"We got lucky," Ebeling said. "We heard a clap of thunder, and they blew the horn (to clear the course) when we were all walking off the course at the end."
IU East junior Nick Ary (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville High School) finished second overall with a two day total of 157, including a 77 in the final round.
Ary had a 36 on the front nine, but couldn't make up ground on Brescia's Garrett Veal, the first-round leader.
Veal finished with a 151 to win medal honors
"Nick couldn't quite catch him this time out," Ebeling said.
Freshman Zack Palmer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) tied for seventh with a 171, including an 87 in the second round.
Senior Mark Bevins (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village High School) tied for 12th with a 176. Bevins carded an 87 in the final round, including a 40 on the front nine.
"Mark wasn't feeling well on the front nine (in the first round), but he redeemed himself on the front nine today," Ebeling said.
Freshman Derrick McNeely (Connersville, Ind./Connersville High School) tied for 16th with a 184, including a 92 in the second round.
Freshman Brandon Loomis (Union City, Ind./Union City Community High School) was 18th with a 187, including a 98 in the final round.
"We will need our No. 4 and No. 5 to shoot in the 80s to gain ground on Brescia," Ebeling said. "Right now we have yet to get our whole team in the 80s on the same day, so that will be the next logical progression for us."
The Red Wolves compete in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament April 23 at Richmond, Ky.
