Allison Nicley, a 5-11 outside hitter at Western Boone High School, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball for the Red Wolves starting with the 2010-11 season.
IU East coach Charlie Brown announced the signing April 16.
"She's kind of quiet," Brown said. "But she's the kind of player who does all of her talking on the court, and that's good enough for me."
Nicley (pronounced "nicely") led Western Boone to a 24-8 record this past fall. The Stars reached the quarterfinals of Indiana's Class 3A state tournament.
IU East's coaches first saw Nicley at a club tournament in January and were impressed with her fearless approach against high-level opponents.
"She's definitely a high-level player," Brown said. "She has a very good understanding of the game and how to play at the highest level. She's capable of that 'wow factor' on the court.
"Her volleyball toolbox is full and we're glad she's bringing it with her to IU East."
Nicley also considered Akron University, Georgetown College and Marian University. Akron is an NCAA Division I program. Georgetown was the NAIA national runner-up this past season.
"I chose IU East because of the atmosphere there and the opportunity to make an impact," Nicley said.
Nicley is the daughter of Tim and Angie Nicley.
The seven signees in IU East's 2010 volleyball recruiting class helped their teams to a combined 195-38 record this past fall.
Nicley joins Caitlin Burroughs (Northeastern High School), Sarah Shilling (Warsaw Community High School), Paige Lay (Parkland College), Sarah Berlatsky (Parkland College), Ariel Cox (Mississinawa Valley High School) and Meagan Stoker (Celina High School) in the Red Wolves' recruiting class.
"This has been a tremendous recruiting season for us," Brown said. "We've brought in a balanced team with a ton of chemistry.
"I'll be excited to take this team anywhere to play."
