
Indiana University East's women's track and field athletes will compete in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference meet April 24 at Berea College.
Events start at 10 a.m.
IU East junior Vanessa Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) is the No. 1 seed in the high jump. Red Wolves sophomore Kait Ervin (West Alexandria, Ohio/Twin Valley South High School) is the No. 1 seed in the discus throw.
MILESTONE MARKERThis is IU East's first appearance in a KIAC track and field meet.
LAST TIME OUT
Legg won the high jump, and IU East earned three top-two finishes at the Anderson University Raven Outdoor Invitational on April 16.
Legg finished second in her first 100 meter dash of the season. Ervin placed second in the discus throw.
Legg became the first IU East NAIA track and field athlete to finish first in any event with her win in the high jump.
SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION
Host Berea College is the only school with athletes entered in every event and is an overwhelming favorite to win the team title.
Legg is the top seed in the high jump with a mark of 1.57 meters. Natalie Young of Asbury University is the No. 2 seed with a mark of 1.47 meters.
Ervin is the No. 1 seed in the discus with a mark of 32.10 meters. Nikki Cherry of Berea College is the No. 2 seed with a mark of 30.48 meters.
Legg is the No. 3 seed for the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.89. Jalissa Gresham of Mountain State University is the No. 1 seed with a time of 13.23
Ervin is the No. 3 seed for the shot put with a mark of 9.44 meters. Lydia Wilhelm of Midway College is the No. 1 seed with a mark of 10.03 meters.
Legg is the No. 6 seed for the 200 meter dash with a time of 29.27. Jessica Proffitt of Berea is the No. 1 seed with a time of 27.44.

"As always, we want to improve and execute things we've been working on in practice like Vanessa getting out of the blocks quicker and Kait finishing better on her throws.
"Kait is capable of getting two firsts. If she gets a first and a second, that would be huge for her confidence in the shot put.
"We expect Vanessa to win the high jump, and we hope she'll be able to get better starts in the 100 and 200."

NUMBERS OF NOTE
The minimum qualifying marks for the NAIA National Championships are 12.38 in the 100, 25.35 in the 200, 5-5 in the high jump, 41-3 in the shot put and 134-11 in the discus.
