Indiana University East's track and field athletes will compete in the Pacesetter Invitational on May 1 at Indiana State University's Marks Field.

Events start at 9 a.m.

The meet was added to the Red Wolves schedule to give IU East's athletes a chance to achieve qualifying marks for the NAIA National Championships and to throw the javelin in competition.

MILESTONE MARKER

IU East junior Vanessa Legg (Lynn, Ind./Randolph Southern High School) and Kait Ervin (West Alexandria, Ohio/Twin Valley South High School) are scheduled to become the first Red Wolves to compete in the javelin.

LAST TIME OUT

The Red Wolves won three events in their first appearance at the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference track and field meet.

Ervin swept the shot put and discus.

Legg won the high jump.

IU East's two-woman team finished fifth in the team standings.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Twenty schools were represented at the 2009 Pacesetter Invitational.

The winning mark in the high jump was 1.65 meters (5-5). Legg's season-best is 1.57 meters (5-1.75)

The winning mark in the 200 was 25.20. Legg's season-best is 28.72.

The winning mark in the discus was 48.73 meters (159-10). Ervin's season-best is 33.63 meters (about 110-4).

The winning mark in the shot put was 14.53 meters (47-8). Ervin's season-best is 10.28 meters (about 33-9).

The winning mark in the javelin was 44.59 meters (143-10).

NUMBERS OF NOTE

The minimum qualifying marks for the NAIA National Championships are 25.35 in the 200, 5-5 in the high jump, 41-3 in the shot put, 134-11 in the discus and 127-0 in the javelin.
