NEW ALBANY, Ohio - The Red Wolves took their final swings of the 2010 men's golf season April 30.

Indiana University East's men's golf team concluded its season with a fourth-place finish at an NAIA National Championships Qualifying Tournament at Jefferson Country Club.

The Red Wolves shot a 1,082 in the 54-hole tournament. The final 18 holes on the par 72, 7,003-yard layout were played April 30.

Ohio Dominican University won the event with a 955, 45 shots better than SUNY-Delhi.

IU East junior Nick Ary (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville High School) shot 239 and tied for third.

Ohio Dominican's Nick Trego was medalist with a 232.

The medalist and team champion earned spots in the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships.

Scores soared on the final day as the teams played in blustery conditions.

"You've just got to deal with (winds)," Ebeling said. "I was happy to see our scores drop in Round 2 (April 29), but today it just didn't go our way."

Ary entered the final round just two shots behind Trago, but started his final 18 holes with a run of bogeys to fall off the pace.

"Nick picked it up and made a run for a while, but those bogeys on the first six holes, he couldn't come back from that," Ebeling said.

IU East freshman Zack Palmer (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) shot a 92 on the final day and finished with a 261, good for 15th place.

"Zack is just getting better and better," Ebeling said.

Senior Mark Bevins (Hollansburg, Ohio/Tri-Village High School) shot 94 his final round as a Red Wolf and finished with a 280, good for 20th place.

"He had a nice moment coming off of the course with some of the seniors from the other conference schools," Ebeling said.

"It was a nice moment for those seniors to play for the last time on a premier course like this."

Freshman Derrick McNeely (Connersville, Ind./Connersville High School) shot 106 on the final day and finished with a 304, good for 25th place.

Freshman Brandon Loomis (union City, Ind./Union City Community High School) shot 104 in the final round and finished with a 307, good for 27th place.

The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference hopes to field six teams next season, meaning the 2011 Red Wolves could earn a trip to nationals simply by winning the conference tournament. Six teams is the minimum number a conference must field to receive an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.

"It will be up to our guys to work harder over the offseason and get their scores to where they can compete with the teams in our conference," Ebeling said.
