A willingness to help others is the foundation of Indiana University East athletics.

A past, present and future Red Wolf put that spirit on display May 21 at the Dennis Middle School Community Fun Fair in Richmond.

Noah Douglas (Indianapolis, Ind./St. Joseph's College), David Sanders (Indianapolis, Ind./Beech Grove High School) and Sean Stevens (Newburgh, Ind./Northeast Community College) hooped it up with youngsters who attended the fair.

Douglas received his IU East degree on May 14, but was willing to volunteer his time at the Community Fun Fair one week later.

Sanders just finished his sophomore year with the Red Wolves.

Stevens has signed to play for IU East starting with the 2010-11 season. He already is a part of the commitment to the community that helped IU East's men's basketball program win the NAIA Buffalo Funds Five Star Awards Champions of Character Award in 2009.

"We are role models, and this are the things we need to do," Sanders said. "It was a nice time."

The IU East players led five-one-five basketball games for about 30 minutes.

"It was fun interacting with the little kids and them coming up and wanting to play with us," Sanders said.

"The kids had fun playing with us and having a good time and beating up on us a bit. We had to play a bit for real!"

The basketball games were part of a full schedule of activities at the Dennis Middle School Community Fun Fair.

The Red Wolves took the court after a demonstration by the Dennis cheerleaders. They stayed after the games to watch a SWAT team demonstration.

The Dennis Middle School Community Fun Fair gave Dennis students an opportunity to see summer program, college and career opportunities available in the area.
