Ohio track and field state qualifier Alex Roach has signed with IU East.

The Red Wolves' newest track and field signee knows how to overcome any hurdles  in his path.

Alex Roach, a senior hurdler at Eaton (Ohio) High School, has signed a letter of intent to compete in track and field for Indiana University East starting with the 2010-11 school year.

IU East announced the signing June 1.

Roach has qualified to compete in the 110-meter hurdles at the Ohio Division II state meet. He qualified for the Division II regional in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.

"IU East is close to home, cheaper, and I love the college," Roach wrote during a signing ceremony.

Roach has personal bests of 14.83 in the 110-meter hurdles and 41.83 in the 300-meter hurdles.

Roach set the Preble County Championship Meet record in the 110-meter hurdles this spring and also won the county championship in the 300-meter hurdles.

He won the conference championship in the 110-meter hurdles.

He plans to major in computer science.

The words he lives by: "We have to do today what others won't so we can do tomorrow what others can't."

Roach is the second state qualifier from Eaton to sign with IU East in the past week. Eaton senior Cory McKinney, who qualified for the state meet in the shot put, signed with IU East on May 25.

IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves will field a full track and field team for the first time during the 2010-11 school year.
