Indiana University East earned two top-10 finishes in the 2009-10 NAIA-Sports Information Directors of America (NAIA-SIDA) Publications Awards, the NAIA-SIDA announced during its annual convention earlier this month in Atherton, Calif.
IU East's athletics Web site, www.iueredwolves.com, finished third of 38 in the Outsourced Web Site category.Red Wolves sports information director Kyle Wright's women's golf season preview article finished ninth of 39 in the Dr. W. Jack Bell Writing Contest Season Preview/Review category.
"I ask our student-athletes and coaches for quotes on a daily basis," Wright said. "But in this case I'm struggling to find the right words because it is such an honor to receive these honors.
"Our goal is to provide timely and accurate information for Red Wolves fans, and we hope this honor shows our efforts are on the right track."
IU East launched the www.iueredwolves.com Web site in October of 2009. The site has attracted more than 30,000 page views in some months.
The Web site was designed by the IU East Office of External Affairs. The www.iueredwolves.com site is part of the SIDHelp network.
Wright, IU East athletic director Mark Hester, IU East External Affairs Executive Director Rob Zinkan, Communications & Marketing Director John Dalton, Graphic Designer Susanna Tanner, Print & Digital Media Designer Liz Johnson and Web Development Specialist Aaron Hill collaborated to create the www.iueredwolves.com site.
Wright said IU East women's golf coach Von Ebeling provided the theme and background information for the women's golf preview article.
"Coach Ebeling practically wrote that article," Wright said. "He provided an interesting way to approach the women's golf season and the needed facts and figures that added up to an effective article."
This is the first NAIA-SIDA recognition for IU East.
Wright said the sports information department plans several new features for the 2010-11 school year.
Plans include online media guides for all 10 Red Wolves sports and live statistics for select IU East volleyball matches.
"Like our student-athletes, we will always strive for improvements every day and every season," Wright said.
