The IU East women's tennis pack just got tougher.

Cheltsi Hinners, a recent Centerville High School graduate, has signed a letter of intent to play tennis at Indiana University East.

Red Wolves coach Mike Sherer announced the signing July 8.

Hinners played No. 1 doubles for Centerville's Indiana sectional championship team this past season. She helped Centerville win two sectional titles in three varsity seasons.

"Cheltsi brings enthusiasm and the desire to help us add depth to our women's tennis roster," Sherer said. "She had a very successful spring 2010 season. This is the type of student-athlete that fits in well with Indiana University East."

Hinners plans to major in psychology. Her other interests include swimming and marching band.

"I think I can bring my years of varsity tennis to help the depth of the roster," Hinners said. "The best part of my game is mental toughness. I do not give up and I am always trying my best."

The IU East women's tennis team is scheduled to compete in its first season during the 2010-11 school year.

Hinners joins Lizzie Shepherd of Richmond and Kristi Henderson of Cambridge City in IU East's 2010 women's tennis recruiting class.
