Justin Carter's dogged determination paid off with a spot in the Indiana University East men's golf program.

Carter, a recent Centerville (Ind.) High School graduate, has signed a letter of intent to play golf for the Red Wolves starting with the 2010-11 school year.

Red Wolves coach Von Ebeling announced the signing July 9.

"Justin's persistence paid off in the recruiting process," Ebeling said. "He got my attention with his persistence, and as a result he found a program that will be a good fit for him."

Carter won Centerville's most improved player award during the 2010 season. He improved his 18-hole scores from the mid-90s to the mid-80s over the course of his high school career.

His best nine-hole score is a 39. His best 18-hole score was an 85 at Centerville's conference meet during his senior year.

Carter plans to major in computer science with an eye toward a career in information technology.

Justin is the son of William Carter and Sherri Killion.

"I wanted to go to a small college for my first two years and get into a golf program where I would have a chance to stand out," Carter said.

IU East is an NAIA program. The Red Wolves finished second in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference this past season.

Carter joins Wes Drees of Versailles, Ohio, Lee Oakes of Hagerstown, Ind., and Hunter Overleese of Greenfield, Ind., in IU East's 2010 men's golf recruiting class.
