The Red Wolves golf program hopes Dylan Blunk's strong finish to his high school golf career carries over to his new college team.
Blunk, a recent Northeastern High School (Ind.) graduate, signed a letter of intent to play golf for Indiana University East.Red Wolves coach Von Ebeling announced the signing Aug. 5.
Blunk helped Northeastern win the Tri-Eastern Conference this past spring.
He is a two-time all-conference honoree. He has finished as high as third in the Richmond junior city tournament.
When Blunk says golf is his favorite sport, he means it. He headed off to practice on his own immediately after signing his letter of intent.
He sees his drives as the strongest part of his game. He drives 310 yards on good days and "only" 280 yards on bad days.
His best scores are 39 for nine holes and 80 for 18 holes.
"He typically shoots in the mid-80s, which is similar to most of the freshman we have coming in," Ebeling said. "I would like to get him in the 70s at IU East."
Dylan is the son of Dale and Darla Blunk.
He chose IU East because it is "local, small and has a great atmosphere."
Blunk joins Wes Drees (Versailles, Ohio),Hubie Branstetter (Brookville, Ind.), Dakota Richardson (Brookville, Ind.), Justin Carter (Centerville, Ind.), Lee Oakes (Hagerstown, Ind.) and Hunter Overleese (Greenfield, Ind.) in IU East's 2010 men's golf recruiting class.
The Red Wolves open their fall season with the IU East Fall Tee-Off Tournament on Aug. 24 at Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond. IU East's men's golf regular season is in the spring.
