It's unanimous.

The Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference coaches expect Indiana University East's volleyball team to repeat as league champions.

The Red Wolves received all eight first place votes in the KIAC volleyball preseason poll released Aug. 16.

IU East won the program's first KIAC regular season and tournament titles in 2009.

"We will certainly have the bull's-eye on our backs," said Red Wolves coach Charlie Brown.

"We've got to approach each conference match with a kill-or-be-killed attitude. We can't afford to slip because we only play each other once in conference."

IU East placed fifth in the KIAC preseason men's cross country, women's cross country and women's tennis polls.

IU East was fifth out of five KIAC men's cross country teams at an NAIA National Championships Qualifying meet in 2009.

The Red Wolves did not have enough runners to field a full women's team in 2009.

IU East cross country coach Pam Mertz expects improvement, but doesn't mind the Red Wolves' spot in the preseason poll.

"I would rather be a sleeper than someone people are expecting to do well," Mertz said.

"Polls mean nothing to me. My kids know what they can do, and we will be competitive."

IU East will compete in its first women's tennis season this fall.

The Red Wolves finished ahead of two teams in the KIAC preseason poll.

"I'm a little surprised to be that high due to the fact that it's our first season and we haven't had a chance to show anyone what we do have," IU East coach Mike Sherer said.

"As a competitive and serious program we hope, looking toward the future, to be better than No. 5, but it does take time to build."
