Red Wolves - IU East

Chris Young of Fishers, Ind., and Terrell Johnson of Cincinnati, Ohio, have signed letters of intent to play for the Indiana University East men's basketball developmental squad.

Red Wolves developmental squad coach Von Ebeling announced the signings Aug. 17.

Young played for Horizon Christian High School in Indianapolis.

He averaged 8.7 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game this past season as Horizon Christian went 24-6 and reached the final four of the Indiana Christian Schools Tournament. He helped Horizon Christian reach three consecutive ICST state finals.

"He is a seasoned basketball player who will contribute in all categories, especially blocks, rebounds and steals," Ebeling said.

"As a big man, has has played predominantly at center. My goal is to extend his range beyond the 3-point line and help him to be a multi-dimensional threat."

Chris is the son of Mike and Alesia Young. He plans to major in biotechnology.

"I chose IU East because of the academic and athletic opportunities," Young said.

Johnson attended Princeton High School (Ohio), where he was MVP of his freshman team. He has extensive traveling team experience.

"He is a very strong and effective two guard (shooting guard) who has the ability to get to the basket," Ebeling said.

"He is an unselfish player who can score inside and outside of the lane. We will depend on him to use his quickness to close out on and defend our opponents' best 3-point shooters."

Terrell is the son of Damion and Veronica Johnson.

"I chose IU East because it is a great fit for me and because I have a connection with the coaching staff," Johnson said. "They made me feel like I was home."

IU East's developmental basketball squad competed in its first season during the 2009-10 school year.

The program was added to give additional student-athletes an opportunity to play basketball at the college level and to develop potential varsity players.

Stephen Jones (Muncie, Ind./Cowan High School), Micah Hickman (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School), Jordan Struewing (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School) and Shawn Austin (Jeffersonville, Ind./Rock Creek Christian Academy) also have signed to play for the developmental squad.
