Darryle Sims, an Indianapolis native, has signed a letter of intent to play for the Indiana University East men's basketball developmental squad.
Red Wolves developmental squad coach Von Ebeling announced the signing Aug. 19.
Sims is part of the Indiana Pacers Power Pack, the dunk team that performs with Boomer, the Pacers' mascot.
Sims, a 5-10 guard, threw down his first dunk at age 15.
He competed in track and field at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis. He has attended the University of Indianapolis and IUPUI.
"Darryle's athleticism is going to be a key on our team," Ebeling said.
"His jumping ability along with his quickness and lateral movement and quick hands will benefit our team defensively."
Darryle is the son of Ronald Presswood Sr. and Ida Mae Wilson.
He hopes to pursue a career in human resources.
"I chose IU East for the chance to play basketball," Sims said. "My cousin told me about IU East and thought I might as well try (to join the team)."
IU East's developmental basketball squad competed in its first season during the 2009-10 school year.
The program was added to give additional student-athletes an opportunity to play basketball at the college level and to develop potential varsity players.
Stephen Jones (Muncie, Ind./Cowan High School), Micah Hickman (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School), Jordan Struewing (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School), Shawn Austin (Jeffersonville, Ind./Rock Creek Christian Academy), Chris Young (Fishers, Ind.) and Terrell Johnson (Cincinnati, Ohio) also have signed to play for the developmental squad.
