RIO GRANDE, Ohio -- The Indiana University East volleyball team continued its red-hot start with a win against Central State on Saturday afternoon at Rio Grande.
The Red Wolves are 7-0 after their 25-4, 25-11, 25-9 victory.
It was the season opener for Central State.
"It's amazing. It's such a turnaround," said sophomore outside hitter Courtney Flory (New Paris, Ohio/National Trail High School).
The Red Wolves started 0-5 last year.
Every IU East athlete played and contributed at least one positive statistic. Brandie Sanders (Indianapolis/Pike High School) led IU East with eight kills. The Red Wolves tallied 13 aces, including three apiece from Sanders, Kristin Waechter (Muncie, Ind./Daleville High School) and Lauren Crump (Indianapolis/Scecina High School). Waechter served up 13 consecutive points in Game 1. Crump had a nine-point serving run to start Game 2.
IU East never trailed. The Red Wolves won the first seven points of Game 1. They led 9-0 to start Game 2. They won the first five points of Game 3.
"We talked about not letting down and playing our game," IU East coach Charlie Brown said. "That was our focus, playing IU East volleyball."
The Red Wolves look for their eighth consecutive win on Sept. 2 when they travel to Wilmington.
"We're off to a good start, and the girls are gaining a lot of confidence as they go," Brown said. "It's becoming a lot of fun to be around them."
