Red Wolves - IU East

The Indiana University East men's golf team will open its fall season with the IU East Fall Tee-Off on Aug. 24 at Highland Lake Golf Course in Richmond.

The Red Wolves will compete in an 18-hole meet against Lourdes College.

Shotgun start is scheduled for 11 a.m.

IU East's golf teams compete in a short fall season in preparation for their regular seasons in the spring.

MILESTONE MARKER

IU East will field an 'A' team and a 'B' team. This will be the first time the Red Wolves have been able to field two complete teams in the program's NAIA history.

LAST TIME OUT

IU East finished second in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and fourth of six in an NAIA National Championships Qualifying Tournament to conclude the 2009-10 season.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Lourdes College is in its first season of NAIA competition.

"For Lourdes College, this will be the first competition in their NAIA golf history. With our golf programs here at IU East being relatively new in the NAIA, we understand how hard it is to schedule events. It is my hope that our school will develop a competitive bond with Lourdes College and we will play matches against each other in the future.

"For IU East, we will have a five-man 'A' team and a four-man 'B' team. This match will be a great way for the returning players to stay competition-ready and for the new freshmen to get a chance to participate and improve their skills during their first intercollegiate event."

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Ebeling says to keep an eye on freshman Wes Drees (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles High School).

"His scores have been very good in qualifying rounds at practice," Ebeling said. "He has the power to drive 300 years and his short game is spot-on."

NUMBERS OF NOTE

IU East's 18-hole average last season was 344.6 strokes.
