The Indiana University East women's golf team opens its fall season Aug. 27 and 28 at the University of Northwestern Ohio Racer Invitational at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course in Lima, Ohio.

IU East's golf teams compete in short fall seasons in preparation for the regular season in the spring.

MILESTONE MARKER

IU East is expected to field a full team for the second time in the women's golf program's two-year history.

LAST TIME OUT

IU East did not field a complete team at the 2009 Racer Invitational. The Red Wolves were represented by individual players at three meets in the spring of 2010.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Walsh was the team champion at the 2009 Racer Invitational. Walsh swept the top three spots in the individual standings.

There were six full teams at the 2009 Racer Invitational.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE

"Our women's team has been practicing hard for the last three weeks and will get one practice round in at Hawthorne Hills Golf Club in Lima, Ohio, before the invitational tees off.

"I'm interested to see how this all-new, young squad reacts to the field of teams. It will be critical for our players to take good notes during our practice round in order to make the adjustments needed to score well during this two-day, 36-hole event."

- IU East golf coach Von Ebeling

PLAYER TO WATCH

Ebeling looks for an instant impact from freshman Ashley Mullin (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School)

"Ashley Mullin is no stranger to big events," Ebeling said. "She posses the skills necessary to do very well in her first intercollegiate match.

"I'm looking for her to be our team leader and keep her teammates loose and confident."

NUMBERS OF NOTE

IU East seeks to improve on the only 18-hole team score in the program's history, a 445 at the Manchester College Fall Golf Invitational in the fall of 2009.
