LIMA, Ohio - The Red Wolves now know where they measure up against some of the other women's golf programs in the area.

The Indiana University East women's golf team is in sixth place out of seven teams after the first day of the University of Northwestern Ohio Invitational at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.

The Red Wolves shot 433 on the 5,846-yard, par 72 layout.

It was IU East's first round of the fall season. The Red Wolves golf teams compete in a short fall season to prepare for the regular seasons in the spring.

Redshirt freshman Jordyn Sparks (Liberty, Ind./Union County High School) is in 20th place after shooting 100.

Freshman Ashley Mullin (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) is in 21st place with a 103.

Freshman Meredith Craig (Mentone, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley) is in 32nd place with a 113.

Freshman Stacey Davis (New Paris, Ohio/National Trail High School) is 33rd after shooting 117.

"It's a good measuring stick of where we stand compared to other schools," said Red Wolves coach Von Ebeling.

"We would like for all of our scores to be under 100 eventually. We've got a couple who are close and we would like to get them under 100 (in the final round)."

Madonna University leads the tournament at 345.

Melissa Finch of Northwestern Ohio shot 77 to grab the individual lead.

IU East is 13 shots out of fifth place. Ebeling says the Red Wolves' goal is to move up one spot on the final day.

"We'll try to overtake (fifth place) Definance College," Ebeling said. "That's doable. We can put the heat on Defiance."

The final round tees off at 9 a.m. on Aug. 28.
