LIMA, Ohio - The Red Wolves made a move in the right direction Aug. 28 in the final round of the University of Northwestern Ohio Racer Invitational.

The Indiana University East women's golf team finished fourth in their first tournament of the fall season, moving up two spots on the final day.

The Red Wolves cut 41 strokes from their opening round score to finish with a two-day total of 825 on the par 72, 5,846-yard layout at Hawthorne Hills Golf Course.

IU East entered the final round in sixth place. The Red Wolves' goal was to move up to fifth.

Mission accomplished.

"Our whole team now has an event worth of experience, and all in all I'm satisfied with their effort," IU East coach Von Ebeling said.

"Their attitudes on the course also brought compliments from other coaches."

Redshirt freshman Jordyn Sparks (Liberty, Ind./Union County High School) led IU East with a two-day score of 193, including a 91 on the final day. Sparks finished 16th.

Freshman Ashley Mullin (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) finished with a 193 and finished 18th. Mullin led the Red Wolves with a 90 on Aug. 28, a team-best 13-stroke improvement.

Freshman Meredith Craig (Mentone, Ind./Tippecanoe Valley High School) shot 215 and finished 28th. Craig carded a 102 on Aug. 28, an 11-stroke improvement.

Redshirt freshman Stacey Davis (New Paris, Ohio/National Trail High School) shot 226th and finished 30th. Davis shot 109 in the final round.

"Each player improved on Day Two," Ebeling said. "We'll work to get their scores lower and lower."

Madonna won the tournament with a two-day score of 680. Madonna's Michelle Hall was medalist with a 158.

IU East returns to action Sept. 10 with an 18-hole dual against Urbana University at Highland Lake Golf Course.

The Red Wolves' golf teams compete in short fall seasons to prepare for the regular season in the spring.
