The Indiana University East men's golf team will compete at the University of St. Francis Invitational Aug. 30 and 31.

The opening round is at Cobblestone Golf Course in Kendallville, Ind. on Aug. 30.

The tournament concludes at Noble Hawk Golf Links in Kendallville on Aug. 31.

IU East's golf teams compete in short fall seasons in preparation for the regular season in the spring.

MILESTONE MARKER

This is IU East's first road trip of the fall season.

LAST TIME OUT

IU East fell 313-314 against Lourdes College on Aug. 24 in the IU East Fall Tee-Off Tournament.

Red Wolves freshman Wes Drees (Versailles, Ohio/Versailles High School) was medalist with a 76.

IU East was 15th of 15 teams at the 2009 University of St. Francis Invitational.

Then-freshman Derrick McNeely (Connersville, Ind./Connersville High School) led the Red Wolves with a 175 in his first college event.

IU East's top player did not compete in the event.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Indiana Wesleyan won the 2009 University of St. Francis Invitational

NOTABLE QUOTABLE

"We will be taking a much stronger team this year. The field of teams will score anywhere between 290 and 315 for 18 holes. The scoring among the teams will be tight without much room for error.

"We have to stay focused at each course we play and take advantage of situations to gain a competitive edge on each hole."

- IU East golf coach Von Ebeling

PLAYER TO WATCH

Ebeling looks for senior Nick Ary (Brookville, Ohio/Brookville High School) to show the younger Red Wolves how to prepare for their first road meet.

"Nick is a road warrior when it comes to practicing at courses where we are scheduled to play," Ebeling said. "It doesn't matter if the course is in Indiana, Kentucky or Ohio. Nick gets there and learns the courses.

"I look for Nick to show his senior leadership at every step of this invitational. From helping his teammates during their practice round to collaborating in the hours between rounds, Nick will be the guiding force that keeps this team driven to improve upon their mark last year."

NUMBERS OF NOTE

IU East's team school record for 18 holes is 312. The Red Wolves were two strokes away from that number in their fall opener.

IU East has never finished ahead of more than seven schools at an NAIA golf competition. The Red Wolves could surpass that number this weekend.
