Brittany Bueter, a new IU East student, joined women's tennis program after watching a workout.
Red Wolves coach Mike Sherer announced the signing Aug. 31.
Bueter already has shown skills that likely will land her in the top half of the IU East lineup.
"Brittany has a history of competitive tennis and has worked on her tennis game year-round for the past four years," Sherer said.
"She definitely wants to keep getting better and keep improving, and she definitely adds more depth to our program. I feel very good about this positive addition to the program."
Bueter is a 2007 graduate of Elkhart Central High School, where she was part of the girls tennis program.
She most recently attended Indiana University in Bloomington.
Footwork won't be a problem for Bueter. She represented the IU Ballroom Dance Club in competitions.
Eye-hand coordination won't be an issue, either. Bueter was MVP for the Elkhart Central girls golf team as a senior in high school.
Brittany is the daughter of Beth and Chuck Bueter.
She plans to major in nursing.
"I chose IU East because I heard the school has an excellent nursing program," Bueter said.
Bueter joins Cheltsi Hinners (Centerville, Ind./Centerville High School), Catherine Penland (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School), Kristi Henderson (Cambridge City, Ind./IUPUI) and Lizzie Shepherd (Richmond, Ind./Richmond High School) in IU East's 2010 women's tennis recruiting class.
IU East is scheduled to compete in its first women's tennis season this fall. The Red Wolves are scheduled to play their first match Sept. 9 against Earlham College.
