Red Wolves - IU East

The Indiana University East cross country teams open their seasons Sept. 2 at the Asbury-Jessamine Special at Asbury University.

The men's 5K race is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m.

The women's 5K race is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

MILESTONE MARKER

This is the earliest start to an IU East cross country season and the first Thursday race in the Red Wolves' cross country history.

LAST TIME OUT

This is IU East's first appearance at the A-J Special.

The IU East men's cross country team finished fifth in the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 2009.

The IU East women's cross country team did not field a complete team at any meets in 2009.

SCOUTING THE OPPOSITION

Georgetown College won the men's and women's team titles at the 2009 A-J Special.

The winning time for the men's race was 17:10.

The winning time for the women's race was 20:08.

NOTABLE QUOTABLE

"We are going into this meet with full teams for the men and women. We are all excited to have full teams and compete. I hate to predict the outcome, but I wouldn't be surprised if we are in the top three or even win a team title.

"With the women, they are ready to start replacing the school's top 10 times with their own names or lower times. Our No. 10 time is 23:07, and I hope to have at least three new top 10 times by the week's end.

"On the men, I don't believe IU East has competed in a 5K race (most men's cross country races are 8K), so we will have six new best 5K times. This is the only 5K we will have this year, so I hope they set low times."

RUNNERS TO WATCH

IU East redshirt freshman Brandon Arnett (Lynn, Ind./Indiana University) ran the top men's time of any Red Wolves runner at the Run with the Wolves 5K on July 17 at IU East.

Red Wolves freshman Carlie Rider (Eaton, Ohio/Eaton High School) had the top women's time of any IU East runner at the Run with the Wolves 5K.
