Richmond, Ind. - The Indiana University East men's tennis team has signed its first athletes for the inaugural tennis season.
Michael Frank from Franklin County High School, Jordan Ross from Northeastern High School and Colin Sherer from Richmond High School have become the first recruiting class for the Red Wolves men's tennis program.
"I decided to attend IU East because the campus is very nice and the athletic department is very friendly," Frank said. "I am also very excited to have the opportunity to work toward an IU degree."
Frank was successful on the court and volunteered in the community off the court throughout his high school career. He was named All-Eastern Indiana Conference in 2007-08. In addition, Frank participated in his community through United Way, student council and junior leaders.
Ross was named All-State honorable mention, All-District and All-Tri-Eastern Conference. He finished his high school career with a record of 64-15, which is second-best in Northeastern history.
"I decided on IU East because of the nursing program and the opportunity to build the tennis program," Ross said. "The goal for next year is to get better every day and to compete the best I can."
Ross is the son of Rick and Traci Ross and has one sibling, Cory.
Sherer was the third player to sign on this monumental day for the Red Wolves. In high school he was named All-State honorable mention and All-North Central Conference.
"IU East is close to home and it is very affordable for a great degree," Sherer said. "The staff and campus environment are very inviting. I am looking forward to a successful first year."
Said head coach Mike Sherer: "It is great to have the first official signings complete for tennis at IU East," Head Coach Michael Sherer said. "I look forward to building this program and these three athletes will be good additions to the team. The combination of high school and tournament experience that these signees bring to the team, is just what we are looking for to start the Red Wolf tennis program."
The Red Wolves tennis team begins play in the fall of 2009.
