Pam Mertz - Head Coach - 2nd Season
Pam Mertz got the Indiana University East cross country program moving in a hurry.
Mertz was appointed as IU East men's and women's cross country coach in August of 2009.
Mertz helped the Red Wolves make an impact at the national level during her very first season.
Two IU East runners advanced to the 2009 NAIA National Championships under Mertz' direction. The Red Wolves' men's and women's cross country teams both earned Scholar Team recognition from the NAIA.
Mertz' recruiting efforts more than doubled the size of the Red Wolves' roster for the 2010 season. The new goal is to win Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference team championships and take full IU East teams to the NAIA National Championships.
Mertz is a well-known figure in the Richmond area running scene.
Mertz qualified for the Indiana state finals in cross country and track and field as a high school athlete at Hagerstown (Ind.) High School. She competed in NCAA Division I cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field at Ball State University.
She assisted with the Hagerstown girls program in 1996 and 1997.
Mertz is a six-time champion of the Wayne County Challenge, a local running series. She resides in the Richmond area.
