IU East AD Announces Retirement
RICHMOND, Ind. - Indiana University East athletic director Joe Griffin has announced his retirement. Coming to IU East in August of 2014, Griffin's time will officially end on March 31, 2026.
During Griffin's tenure, the Red Wolves have had many championships in both the River States Conference and its predecessor the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. There have also been 16 NAIA All-Americans, many national individual and team qualifiers in men's and women's basketball, women's volleyball, women's soccer, men's and women's golf, women's tennis, men's and women's track, men's and women's cross country.
The first season for women's basketball was in 2014-15, while the indoor track programs followed in 2015-16. Soon after IU East opened the Student Events and Activities Center that features Lingle Court in 2016, the men's and women's soccer programs were established with play beginning in the fall of 2017. In 2020, eSports started with men's volleyball being the most recent addition in 2024-25. There has also been full-time coaching positions added in cross country, track and tennis along with growth in international student-athletes.
A national search for Griffin's successor will begin soon.
